Program Outreach Coordinator
Location: Schererville and Griffith, IN. Offices

Position Overview: The Community Outreach Coordinator at Sounds of Sarah, Inc. plays a vital role in expanding access to education, resources, and support services throughout South Lake County and rural communities. This position is responsible for conducting community outreach, providing naloxone education and training, supporting families through Next of Kin (NOK) services following an illicit drug poisoning/overdose loss, and helping connect individuals to available community resources. The Coordinator will also assist with transportation services as needed to support access to treatment, recovery, healthcare, and other essential services. The ideal candidate is passionate about serving the community, building relationships with local partners, and helping individuals and families navigate challenges related to substance use, mental health, and grief.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct outreach activities throughout South Lake County and rural communities to increase awareness of available programs, resources, and support services.
Provide naloxone education and training to community members, organizations, businesses, schools, and other stakeholders.
Assist with the distribution of naloxone, educational materials, and prevention resources at community events and outreach locations.
Support individuals and families impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, and illicit drug poisoning/overdose through information, referrals, and resource navigation.
Provide compassionate Next of Kin (NOK) support services to families following an overdose-related loss and connect them with available grief and support resources.
Coordinate transportation services as needed to assist individuals in accessing treatment, recovery support, healthcare appointments, social services, and other community resources.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, schools, law enforcement, social service agencies, and other stakeholders.
Represent Sounds of Sarah, Inc. at community events, meetings, coalitions, and outreach activities.
Assist with planning and implementation of educational programs, prevention initiatives, and public awareness campaigns.
Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, trainings, referrals, naloxone distribution, transportation services, and family support contacts.
Assist with data collection, reporting requirements, and program documentation to support grant-funded initiatives.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of Sounds of Sarah, Inc.
Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in social services, public health, education, nonprofit management, or related field preferred• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in program development, program coordination, and community outreach• Experience working with youth, families, or school-based programs• Basic understanding of grant-funded programs and reporting requirements• Strong organizational and project management skills• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities• Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities effectively. Some fundraising experiences.
Preferred Qualifications•
Knowledge of substance use prevention, outreach and mental health•
Experience supporting grant reporting or program evaluation.
Ability to communicate effectively
Work Environment and Expectations• Combination of office, school-based, and community settings• Some evening and occasional weekend hours required for events and family programming• Local travel within Lake County and surrounding areas
Compensation• Salary range: $40,000 annually (based on experience)• Benefits and professional development opportunities available.
