Sounds of Sarah, Inc., a Lake County-based nonprofit, has been awarded $200,000 in local Opioid Settlement Funds to expand its work across Lake County, with a strong focus on reaching rural communities.
This funding supports continued efforts to make sure individuals and families across the entire county have access to life-saving resources, support, and care. While services might be available, access can look different depending on where someone lives. This expansion can help strengthen access in rural areas and ensures support across communities.
Through the Crisis Care Connection Transportation Expansion Project, Sounds of Sarah will introduce a dedicated response vehicle to enhance outreach efforts in Lake County and improve access in rural areas. This expansion will help provide transportation services, connect individuals to community resources, it will also provide ongoing naloxone training and community outreach events.
Rural communities often face additional barriers when it comes to accessing services, and this initiative is designed to help close that gap. The focus is to ensure that individuals and families across south Lake County, have access to life-saving support.
Families impacted by substance use and loss often experience layered trauma, including adverse mental health, sudden loss, and ongoing grief. These experiences can make it more difficult to seek help and stay engaged in care. As part of this expansion, Sounds of Sarah will provide trauma responsive engagement, short term postvention support, and facilitated referrals to behavioral health and grief services through Next of Kin services. Key outcomes will include a number of families served, successful linkage to trauma informed care, and continued follow up engagement.
This funding also supports training for staff and community partners to strengthen the ability to identify and respond to trauma related to substance use, overdose, and loss. It will help improve coordination across public health, healthcare, behavioral health, and community based organizations.
This investment builds on the work already being done, strengthening services, expanding reach, and continuing to support individuals and families throughout Lake County.
This work reflects an ongoing commitment from Sounds of Sarah to showing up, expanding access where it is needed most, and continuing to do the work that saves lives. We are grateful to Lake County and the Commissioner's for this investment in us
